Media Detox

Media: What have you done for me lately?
*
Fast. A deluge of seductive advertisements luring you to spend your money. 500 channels--surfing. Fast.
Flash--Flash--Flash
Breaking News. Headlines. Need it now. Fast. My show's on in ten. Addicted to boredom. What?? Fast.
Flash--Flash--Flash
Check my Yahoo. Check my Blog. Check my Facebook. Check Edjoin. Hmmm. What else can I check? Fast. Need to update. What to write? Think, think, THINK! Be creative! Be fast.

I have decided to de-media-ize myself for one week. Starting tomorrow there will be NO TV, NO RADIO, and (sadly) NO INTERNET for 7 days.
Symptoms that led to my decision:
*I have anxiety attacks when things don't happen at lightening speed--i.e. slower drivers, long stoplights, long commercials, slow Internet load-ups...
*Finn sits like a zombie in front of the tube (and we're talkin' Good Morning America, here, not the Teletubbies)
*I waste a lot of valuable Finn Time, Creative Time, Get-Things-Done Time
*My head will explode if I hear one more advertisement
*At bedtime my overloaded head is buzzing with information=crazy dreams all night

And generally? I just feel icky. Kind of like I've been sitting in a bed for 10 years. Kind of like I need to go run around the park 20 times. Kind of like I'm not living my best life possible.

SO--I'll bid you all au revoir, but not adieu, because I WILL be returning to my happy blog next Thursday. Will I be tempted? Oh yes. Will I miss my beloved Bachelor on Monday night? sniff...oh yes. But I can't WAIT to let you in on the results of my experiment next week! Wish me luck!

Sounds like a GREAT idea! I should do that! Is Peou on board with you?

I totally get it! I started cutting way back on the amount of TV we watch in our house. It's amazing how great it is. Kudos!

Good for you! Yes, I want to know if Peou is doing the same (I know it would be a nightmare if I tried to take the T.V. from Brian!). Let me know if you want a "Bachelor" update after next week, because I can't miss it! Maybe I'll be brave enough to try the same thing someday.

hey Linds, remember when you were little and we went on those t.v. fasts for weeks at a time? We discovered conversation, less scheduled lifestyles, creativity and best of all, silence. I would also challenge you to take those moments that you devoted to t.v, internet or newpapers and open the Bible and hear what God might say, now that He has your attention :0)
